In running a professional operation, we need appropriate physical infrastructure to provide high quality service in an efficient and effective manner, while maintaining a safe workplace at all times.

• All offices received the Continual Improvement Safety Programme Recognition of System Level 2 Certification from Occupational Safety and Health Council

COST EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT FACILITIES

We have made many cost-effective investments in mechanised postal technology, office automation and other resources to boost operational efficiency. Vertical Postman Preparation Fittings (VPPFs), which make a difference to the way our staff work by improving ergonomics, productivity and accuracy of delivery, were installed at the Sai Ying Pun, Aberdeen, Tai Po and Cheung Sha Wan delivery offices during the year.

To improve efficiency, the present Mechanised Letter Sorting System will be replaced. During the year, we continued planning for a new system that will adopt world class postal technologies to improve efficiency and allow expansion and upgrades.

MAINTAINING A SAFE WORKPLACE

We are always mindful of workplace safety and the need to provide a safe and healthy environment for both our staff and customers. We advocate shared responsibility and commitment amongst management and staff. Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Week was hosted in March 2005 at which a number of safety awards were presented to sections and teams. The awards recognised a range of new safety initiatives, improvements in safety performance and accident control plans.

We also commissioned the Occupational Safety & Health Council (OSHC) to conduct safety audits in accordance with Continual Improvement Safety Programme Recognition of System (CISPROS*). All Hongkong Post offices were awarded the CISPROS Level 2 Certification in September 2005. We commenced preparation during the year for achieving CISPROS Level 3 Certification.

* CISPROS is an Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC) programme recognising effective management of safety and health risks in the work place. The OSHC awards four levels of CISPROS certification.

We strive to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment for all people in our premises including our staff, customers and contractors' employees.
