The Postmaster General, Mr P C LUK, announced today (4 June 2001) that in support of Beijing's bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games, the China National Philatelic Corporation of Mainland has collaborated with Hongkong Post to issue a set of two mini-panes of the "Personal Greetings Stamps". The mini-panes will be entitled "My Wish - Chinese Celebrities from the Sports and Entertainment Circles Wish Beijing Success in Bidding for Hosting the 2008 Olympic Games". They are printed in photogravure by The House of Questa Limited, United Kingdom and will be sold in Hong Kong and in the Mainland on 12 June 2001.
Each mini-pane consists of 18 Personal Greetings Stamps on "Happy Memories - $1.3". On the side of each stamp is the photo of a well-known athlete or entertainment star in the Mainland with their blessings. The following 36 Chinese athletes and entertainment stars are depicted on the two mini-panes:
These mini-panes will be sold by Hongkong Post on behalf of China National Philatelic Corporation in complete sets of 2 and the selling price is HK$120 per set. They will be put on sale at the 38 Philatelic Offices on 12 June 2001. A restriction of 2 sets of mini-panes per customer queuing will be imposed on the first day of issue on 12 June 2001 and on subsequent days until stock lasts.
Hand-back service will be provided at the 38 Philatelic Offices on 12 June 2001 to privately-made covers bearing an indication of the event and a local address with the normal office postmark. The GPO-1 datestamp and "Hongkong Post Stamps" pictorial postmark will also be available for hand-back service at all Philatelic Offices on that day.
The 38 Philatelic Offices will open as per normal operating hours on 12 June 2001 to provide a full range of counter service. At the same time, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Stamps Philatelic Bureau will also open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on that day for datestamping covers with the "Hongkong Post Stamps" pictorial postmark and the GPO-1 postmark.
