The Acting Postmaster General, Mr Allan Chiang, announced today (June 29) that a Prestige Stamp Booklet and a souvenir cover will be issued on July 21 (Saturday) to commemorate the China Light and Power (CLP) Centenary this year.
This Prestige Stamp Booklet captures the development of CLP in its first centenary. Inside this booklet are two stamp sheetlets. Each stamp sheetlet bears two stamps depicting two types of trees commonly found in Hong Kong. They are Bauhinia Blakeana ($1.30) and Chinese Banyan ($2.50) on one sheetlet; and Cotton Tree ($3.10) and Schima ($5.00) on the other. These stamps are selected from a previous stamp issue of "Hong Kong Trees " issued on June 16, 1988. The stamps are printed in photogravure by The House of Questa Ltd, United Kingdom. The selling price of the Prestige Stamp Booklet is $30 each.

As from June 30, the Prestige Stamp Booklet and the stamp sheetlets will be displayed for advance information of the public at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office. Official souvenir covers at $1 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at all post offices from June 30 to July 9.
A set of two souvenir covers priced at $18.9 will also be available for sale at all post offices on July 21. Each cover will be affixed with a stamp sheetlet and cancelled with the special postmark. No loose stamp sheetlet will be available for sale.
A restriction of five stamp booklets and five sets of serviced souvenir covers per customer queuing will be imposed on the first day of issue on July 21 and on subsequent days until stock lasts.
Hand-back service will be provided at all post offices on July 21 to official and privately-made covers bearing an indication of the event and a local address. A special postmark will also be introduced. The GPO-1 datestamp and "Hongkong Post Stamps" pictorial postmark will also be available for hand-back service at all philatelic offices on that day.

All counter offices will open as per normal Saturday hours on July 21 to provide a full range of counter services. At the same time, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Stamps Philatelic Bureau will also open from 9 am to 1 pm for datestamping covers with the "Hongkong Post Stamps" pictorial postmark, the GPO-1 postmark as well as the special postmark.
