Hongkong Post and the Treasury today signed a Service Level Agreement to enable Government bills presently payable at the shroff offices of the Treasury and the New Territories District Offices to be paid through Hongkong Post's PayThruPost service.

Senior officials of the Hongkong Post and the Treasury witnessed a signing ceremony held at the General Post Office today presided over by the Postmaster General, Mr. P. C. LUK and the Director of Accounting Services, Mr. M. T. SHUM.

"We are happy to work in collaboration with Treasury and other government departments," said Mr. LUK, "with the extension of the PayThruPost service to accepting payment for Government bills, we are able to provide the public with a more convenient one-stop payment service."

The PayThruPost service of Hongkong Post was first launched in April 2000. Members of public can settle their utility bills including those issued by CLP Power, Hongkong Electric, Towngas and PCCW's fixed-line telecom and IDD bills, by cash or cheque at any of the 126 post offices.

"With the extension of our PayThruPost service to government bills in October, the public will be able to enjoy a more comprehensive payment solution," said Mr. LUK.

According to the Service Level Agreement signed today, Hongkong Post will provide government bill payment service at 126 post offices as from 3 October this year. These bills include various demand notes issued by Rating and Valuation Department, Water Supplies Department, Student Financial Assistance Agency, Hong Kong Police Force, Education Department, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Lands Department, Environmental Protection Department and Inland Revenue Department etc.
