The Acting Postmaster General, Mr. Allan CHIANG, announced that in celebrating Beijing's success in its bid for hosting the 2008 Olympaid, Hongkong Post, China Post and Macau Post will each issue a special stamp today (14 July 2001) with a common design based on the 'Beijing 2008' emblem. The issue will take the form of a pane of twelve stamps. The stamps are printed in photogravure by Beijing Stamp Printing Factory in the Mainland.
The special stamp pane issued by Hongkong Post is designed by Mr. Arde LAM. It comprises twelve $1.30 stamps and is sold at $15.60 each at all post offices (except mobile post offices) today from 9:00 a.m. onwards. Stamps will not be sold individually. In addition to blank first day covers sold at $1 each, serviced first day covers with the special stamp affixed and cancelled with the special postmark are available at $4.8 each.
As a related philatelic product, a souvenir pack will jointly be issued by Hongkong Post, China Post and Macau Post. This pack contains a se-tenant stamp sheet which is made up of the stamp panes issued by these three postal administrations, with a total of thirty-six stamps. The souvenir pack is sold at $75 each at all post offices (except mobile post offices) from today onwards until stock lasts.
A restriction of two stamp panes (viz. 24 stamps), one souvenir pack, two blank first day covers and two serviced first day covers per customer queuing is imposed on the first day of issue on 14 July 2001 and on subsequent days until stock lasts.
Order forms will be sent out today (14 July 2001) to subscribers of Local Standing Order Service 2001 who have registered on or before 13 July 2001 to allow placing orders for this special stamp issue. Orders for servicing self-provided first day covers are not accepted.

All post offices (except mobile post offices) will open today (14 July 2001) as per normal opening hours but the business hours will be extended to 4:00 p.m. for providing a full range of normal counter services. As usual, General Post Office and Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office will close at 6:00 p.m. and Airport Post Office will close at 8:30 p.m.
Stock of stamps, souvenir packs and serviced first day covers which remain unsold will be available for sale on the following day, that is, 15 July 2001 (Sunday) at General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office and Airport Post Office during their normal Sunday opening hours, and on subsequent days at all counter offices until stock lasts.
Hand-back service will be provided at all post offices (except mobile post offices) to official and privately-made covers bearing the first day of issue indication. The GPO-1 hand stamp and the pictorial postmark of the philatelic office will alsobe available for hand-back service today at all philatelic offices. The public hall of Hongkong Post Stamps will open today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for datestamping covers with the Hongkong Post Stamps pictorial postmark, the GPO-1 postmark as well as the special postmark.
