As from today, 3 October 2001, members of the public can pay their government bills at any of the 126 post offices through the PayThruPost service. A ceremony was held at the General Post Office to officially launch this service this morning. The officiating party comprises Mr. P. C. LUK, the Postmaster General, who was joined by Mr. W. K. LAM, Secretary for Home Affairs and heads of government departments including Ms. Shelley LEE, Director of Home Affairs; Mr. Y. P. TSANG, Commissioner of Police; Mrs. Alice LAU, Commissioner of Inland Revenue; Mr. K. T. W. PANG, Commissioner of Rating and Valuation; Mr. M. T. SHUM, Director of Accounting Services; Mr. H. B. PHILLIPSON, Director of Water Supplies; and Mr. J. D. WILLIS, Controller of Student Financial Assistance Agency.
Mr. LUK said, "driven by our value 'to excel through development and innovation', we have made continuous efforts in extending the service scope of PayThruPost. When the service had its modest start in April last year, only two utilities companies were on our service list. As the service grows, we now extend its scope to handle payments for a number of utilities as well as Government bills. The public can now settle payments for electricity, gas, telephone, water, rates, government rent, tax and fixed penalty charges for traffic offences at any of our post offices."
At the ceremony, Mr. LUK received from Mr. LAM a blow-up Government bill which symbolized the official launching of the service. Mr. LAM said, "one can now go to post offices to settle Government bills which used to be paid at the Sub-Treasuries and Collection and Payment Offices at New Territories District Offices. The extension of PayThruPost service has offered us a convenient one stop shop for making bill payment."
>From today onwards, members of the public can settle their utilities and Government bills at any post offices by cash or cheque. Bills issued by the following organizations are accepted: Inland Revenue Department, Water Supplies Department, Rating and Valuation Department, Hong Kong Police Force, Treasury, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Environmental Protection Department, Student Financial Assistance Agency, Education Department, Drainage Services Department, CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd., Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd., Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd., Hong Kong CSL Ltd. and Towngas.
