Good morning Mrs. Carrie YAU, Mr. P. C. LUK, Mrs. Agnes NARDI, Ladies and Gentlemen, friends from the media,
I am very honoured to be a part of this ceremony to witness with you today the launch of the Mobile e-Cert.
It has been widely predicted that mobile devices will soon become the personal computer of choice. With the rapid adoption of mobile device usage, it brings with it new, previously unexplored business opportunities.
Imagine a world where people can conduct personal business from wherever they are, any time of the day. People no longer have to be tied to their desktop computer to be productive -- you can pay your bills while watching your child's football game, participate in a business meeting while you are commuting to work, or simply transfer money from your bank accounts while shopping at the mall.
The establishment of the Hongkong Post's Mobile e-Cert service will empower people to confidently and securely conduct these communications from their mobile devices. Hongkong Post is truly a pioneer in the world to develop mobile e-Cert system for community-wide adoption. In its role as a market leader and innovator, Hongkong Post is helping businesses and the Government to promote the use of wireless technology and to foster mobile commerce in Hong Kong. Now, people can be confident that their mobile transactions are conducted in a secured environment. You will know that your identity is protected, your message remains private, and your transactions are legally binding.
The conception of the Mobile e-Cert was not a quick one. Hongkong Post and Diversinet have been working on this vision for the last year and half. We realized that m-commerce is the future of e-commerce and responded to that belief with the creation of the Mobile e-Cert. We are committed to the success of the Mobile e-Cert as it is symbolic of mobile commerce in Hongkong -- we see it as the vehicle through which the citizens of Hong Kong can securely and confidently conduct business over wireless networks.
Today's announcement is also unique as we are feeling a real sense of teamwork amongst the business community. We are witnessing the coming together of mobile operators, financial enterprises, security vendors, and Hong Kong's major Certification Authority for the cooperation and commitment of making secure m-commerce a reality for all of Hong Kong. We all have one common goal - unleashing the opportunities that wireless communications can bring as easily as possible for the citizens of Hong Kong.
I am very happy to be a part of the Hongkong Post's new Mobile e-Cert launch, and I am confident that the Mobile e-Cert service will help provide mobile operator and enterprise customers a high degree of security and confidence in the use of the mobile applications.
Thank you very much.
