A new post office at Fu Tai Estate, Tuen Mun will open for business at 12:00 noon on Monday, 22 October 2001, bringing the total number of branch post offices in Hong Kong to 130.
The Fu Tai Post Office, located at Shop No.1, G/F, Fu Tai Shopping Centre, Fu Tai Estate, Tuen Mun, will provide a full range of counter services.
The Postmaster General, Mr. P. C. LUK said, "To commemorate the post office opening, a $2 souvenir cover will be issued and put on sale at the General Post Office , Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office , Shatin Central Post Office , Tsuen Wan Post Office from 15 October to 22 October 2001 and at the new office after office opening."
A special hand-back service will be provided on 22 October 2001 at the new office, whereby official and privately made unregistered covers with full postage prepaid and bearing the words "First Day Cover" and a local address will be accepted and impressed with the normal datestamp of the office and handed back to the customer. To provide greater convenience for philatelists, the normal office datestamp of the Fu Tai Post Office will be reproduced for the provision of hand-back service at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Shatin Central Post Office and Tsuen Wan Post Office on 22 October 2001.
"The new Fu Tai Post Office has adopted a new layout and design which accentuates Hongkong Post's progressive corporate image. It has two multi-purpose counter units designed to provide more convenient and efficient service to customers and an array of merchandise for customers to browse and buy," added Mr. LUK.
An opening ceremony will be held at the new office on 22 October 2001. Officiating guests include the Chairman of Tuen Mun District Council, Mr. LAU Wong-fat and the District Officer (Tuen Mun), Mr. Jacky LUM.
