Speech for Mr. P. C. LUK, Postmaster General

Distinguished guests and friends from the media,

Welcome to the issuing ceremony of Children Stamps.

Hongkong Post is committed to the promotion of philately as an interesting and educational pastime. We trust that this hobby is best developed when young and that is why we feature the younger generation in this issue to attract them to stamp collecting. This set of special stamps features the faces of adorable kids. Children are encouraged to stretch their imagination by adding colours and patterns on the stamps to create a most unique set of stamps.

As Hongkong Post issues the Children Stamps today, we score two firsts by producing the world's only coloured stamps still valid for posting and issuing for the first-ever adhesive stamps in Hong Kong which is particularly children-friendly.

In order to encourage creativity among children, we have also organized the "Children Stamps - Ingenuous Artists Drawing Competition" for children aged 12 or below. All they need to do is create a unique souvenir cover with a set of coloured stamp and submit their works to us on or before 8 December 2001.

No matter you are a kid or not, I believe you will find these stamps attractive and adorable. Just imagine one day when you open your mail box and find a letter affixed with a stamp meticulously coloured by an ingenuous young artist. Wouldn't it be lovely?

Thank you.
