The Postmaster General, Mr Luk Ping-chuen, announced today (November 29) that to commemorate Hongkong Post's participation in the 36th Hong Kong Product Expo (HKPE), which will be held from December 15, 2001 to January 7, 2002 at the Tamar Site, Central, a souvenir cover will be issued on December 15, 2001.
The design concept of the cover originated from the theme of the Expo: "HKPE: A Showcase of Hong Kong Brands". The cover will be available for sale at $2 each at the 38 philatelic offices from December 1, 2001 to December 15, 2001. Serviced souvenir covers at $5.80 each, postmarked with the date of purchase, will also be available at the Expo venue throughout the Expo period.
A special postmark and a cachet will be introduced to commemorate the event. Hand-back service to official and privately-made covers bearing an indication of the event and a local address will be provided at all philatelic offices and the Expo venue on the opening day of the Expo, that is December 15, 2001. The cachet will be available at the Expo venue throughout the Expo period from December 15, 2001 to January 7, 2002.
Application of the cachet will also be available at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office and Airport Post Office during the same period but excluding public holidays, i.e. December 25 and 26, 2001 and January 1, 2002. For other philatelic offices, the cachet will be available on normal working days during the Expo period.
The public hall of Hongkong Post Stamps Philatelic Bureau will open from 9 am to 1 pm on December 15, 2001 for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the GPO-1 postmark as well as the special postmark and cachet.
