The Postmaster General, Mr Luk Ping-chuen, announced today (December 28) that a definitive stamp sheetlet (No. 6) will be issued on January 19, 2002 to commemorate the Serving the Community Festival to be held from January 20 to February 2, 2002. This Festival marks the tenth anniversary of the launch of the Serving the Community programme by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and serves to underline the dedication and commitment of the Government in striving for a better quality of service to the public.
This stamp sheetlet is designed by Mr Tony Ho and printed in photogravure by Joh. Enschede Security Printers, the Netherlands. This stamp sheetlet incorporates a $5 definitive stamp and will be sold at $5.00 each. A presentation pack containing the stamp sheetlet will also be available for sale at $13.00 each at all post offices on January 19, 2002.
As from December 29, 2001, the stamp sheetlet and the presentation pack will be displayed for advance information of the public at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Shatin Central Post Office. Official souvenir cover at $1.00 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at all post offices from December 29, 2001 to January 7, 2002.
Serviced souvenir cover at $8.50 each affixed with a stamp sheetlet and cancelled with a special postmark will be available at the 38 philatelic offices on January 19, 2002.
A restriction of twenty stamp sheetlets, five serviced souvenir covers and five presentation packs per customer queuing will be imposed on the first day of issue on January 19, 2002 and on subsequent days until stock lasts.
A special postmark will be introduced to commemorate the event. Hand-back service to official and privately-made covers bearing an indication of the event and a local address will be provided at all post offices on January 19, 2002. The GPO-1 hand stamp and pictorial postmarks will also be available for hand-back service at all philatelic offices on that day.
All counter offices will open on January 19, 2002 to provide a full range of counter services and the normal Saturday opening hours will apply. The public hall of Hongkong Post Stamps Philatelic Bureau will also open from 9 am to 1 pm on January 19, 2002 for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the GPO-1 postmark as well as the special postmark.
On January 20, 2002, the Serving the Community Festival Carnival will be held at the Tamar Site, Central. To highlight the commitment of Hongkong Post to deliver excellent customer service to the community, Hongkong Post will organise a series of activities to showcase the wide range of quality services provided, including the setting up of a booth at the Carnival venue on that day. Apart from small giveaways, a souvenir cover and a cachet have been specially designed for this event. The souvenir cover will be distributed to all visitors free of charge at the Carnival while stock lasts. Customers can approach the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Airport Post Office and Hongkong Post's booth at the Carnival venue to obtain the cachet impression on January 20, 2002.
