Hongkong Post issued today (19 May 2002) the "Hong Kong, China - Canada Joint Issue on Corals" special stamps. At a ceremony held this morning at Ocean Park, Mr. Peiding JI, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in HKSAR, Mr. Jim FEIR, Acting Consul General of Consulate General of Canada, Hong Kong, and Dr. K. K. LIU, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation unveiled the stamps to the general public. Mr. P. C. LUK, Postmaster General and Mr. Andre OUELLET, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post then officiated the issue by stamping a blow-up first day cover. Mr. LUK also presented to the guests and Mr. Bon KWAN, designer of these special stamps, and Mr. Leslie CHAN, underwater photographer, framed stamps and first day covers as a memento of the occasion.
As this is a joint stamp issue with Canada Post, an issuing ceremony was also held today in Canada to celebrate the event and Mr. Allan CHIANG, Deputy Postmaster General of Hongkong Post had attend the ceremony and officiated the issue jointly with representative of Canada Post.
