The Postmaster General, Mr Luk Ping-chuen, announces the introduction of a series of enhancements to Speedpost service with effect from today (September 16). These service enhancements include: i) expansion of Speedpost Premium Service network to Sydney, Melbourne, Seoul, Fuzhou and Xiamen; ii) reduction of the existing surcharge for Speedpost Premium Service by 30 per cent to 48 per cent; and iii) increase of maximum weight limit for Speedpost items to Taiwan.
"At Hongkong Post, we are committed to providing our customers with the best value service. The new service enhancements will be a step forward in our continuous efforts to upgrade our service," Mr Luk said.
The Speedpost Premium Service guarantees delivery of urgent documents to the designated cities of the world by the pledged time the next working day. Speedpost Premium Service has already covered Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macau, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, and Frankfurt. Effective today, the network will be expanded to Sydney, Melbourne, Seoul, Fuzhou and Xiamen. Customers paying a minimal surcharge can enjoy a time-guaranteed delivery by the designated time the next working day after posting. Contemporaneous with the network expansion, there will be a sharp price cut of up to 48per cent discount on the existing surcharge for Speedpost Premium Service. Also effective today, Speedpost will accept items sent to Taiwan weighing up to 35kg. Moreover, during the first 6 months of service introduction, items to Taiwan weighing between 30kg and 35kg will be charged at 30kg postage only. Such heavier items will be accepted exclusively via Speedpost pick-up service.
"I am sure that customers will benefit from these service enhancements, and we endeavor to continue to upgrade our services for destinations closely linked with Hong Kong by trade," Mr Luk concluded.
Today, during an international workshop currently held in Hong Kong with five overseas postal administrations to explore ways to upgrade the Speedpost service, Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development), Mr Kingsley Li, together with Director General of Direction of Express Mail Service of China Post, Ms Yuan Guoli, Group Manager (International) of Australia Post, Mr Christopher Grosser, and Director of International Postal Division of Korea Post, Mr Kim Kee Deok, officiated at a ceremony to signify the network expansion of Speedpost Premium Service to Mainland China, Australia and South Korea.
Speedpost provides fast and reliable services for sending overseas documents, samples and merchandise. Apart from the on-demand pick up service, the Speedpost service is available at 130 post offices throughout Hong Kong covering all the major business and industrial districts as well as residential areas.
