"The Acting Assistant Postmaster General (Postal), Mr. Y F CHAN, announced today (9 October 2002) that due to the closure of the west coast ports in the USA since 29 September, all surface mails for the USA posted between 22 August and 2 October may be subject to delay.
To alleviate the problem, arrangements have now been made to forward all surface mails posted after 2 October for the USA to their east coast until the situation in the west coast returns to normal. As the sailing time involved is longer, surface mails to the USA will take about two weeks longer than normal to be delivered.
With the change in despatching arrangements, the Latest Posting Dates for Christmas surface mails to the USA are revised as follows:
Parcels, Letters & Cards - 23 October 2002
For enquiries, customers may call the Hongkong Post Enquiry Hotline at 2921 2222."
