The Postmaster General, Mr. Allan CHIANG, announced today (10 December 2003) that a souvenir cover will be issued on 7 January 2004 to commemorate The Jockey Club 3rd INAS-FID World Swimming Championships, which is a prestigious and highly competitive international sports event held every four years for athletes with intellectual disability.
This souvenir cover will be available for sale at 39 philatelic offices from 19 December 2003 to 2 January 2004. The selling price is $2 each. The event mascot - Chinese White Dolphin "SAM" - on the cover symbolises the dedication of these athletes and their determination to succeed.
A special postmark will be introduced on 7 January 2004. Hand-back service for the special postmark will be provided to official and privately-made covers bearing an indication of the event and a local address at 39 philatelic offices on that day. The "GPO-1" postmark and pictorial postmarks will also be available for providing hand-back service at all philatelic offices on the same day.
The public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau will open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on 7 January 2004 for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the "GPO-1" postmark as well as the special postmark.
