The Postmaster General, Mr. Allan CHIANG, today (15 January 2004) reminded philatelists that the HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo will be held from 30 January to 3 February 2004 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo is also known as the 17th Asian International Stamp Exhibition.
Unlike previous international stamp exhibitions in Hong Kong, the HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo will encompass for the first time coins and notes. The international event this year will carry the theme of "Tourism".
The HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo will be open to the public free. Not to be missed in the Expo will be the Court of Honour which will display valuable collections from the China National Postage Stamp Museum and Hong Kong Museum of History, the China National Philatelic Corporation and other leading philatelists. Guided tours in Cantonese, English and Mandarin will be offered throughout the Stamp Expo.
Another highlight will be the photo-taking for My Stamp. Purchasers at the Expo can have their own images printed on a sheetlet with a set of four stamps. This personalised stamp printing service was extremely welcomed by visitors at the last stamp exhibition in Hong Kong.
Visitors will also be able to witness the birth of a stamp through on-site printing demonstrations by three security printers.
For the fanatic stamp collectors, philatelic seminars will be organized for students and philatelists.
The HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo is designed to be an event to cater for all ages and interests. One of the highlights is a Youth Corner featuring interactive games and DJ programmes related to stamps. In addition, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and Hong Kong Disneyland will have display booths in the Expo to promote Eco-tourism in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Disney theme park.
A series of innovative stamps and stamp-related products will be launched during the five-day event. They include:
First Day Covers for the new stamps to be issued during the Stamp Expo are now on sale at all post offices.
HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo aims to sustain the philatelic interest and to cultivate the pastime of stamp collection. With the support and participation of postal administrations as well as stamp and coin dealers, the Expo will provide an opportunity for visitors to broaden their knowledge and to purchase their favourite philatelic and coin collection.
The HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo will be participated by more than 100 postal administrations, philatelic agents, security printers, stamp and coin dealers, philatelic publishers and stationery suppliers from around the world.
This Expo has the patronage of the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (F.I.A.P.) and is organised by Hongkong Post in joint collaboration with the Hong Kong Philatelic Society, China Philatelic Association and Tsim Sha Tsui Philatelic Club.
