Joint Stamp Issue of Hongkong Post, China Post and Macau Post on "Centenary of the Birth of Deng Xiaoping"

To commemorate the centenary of the birth of Deng Xiaoping, the Acting Postmaster General, Mrs. Joanna CHOI, announced that Hongkong Post, China Post and Macau Post will each issue on 22 August 2004 a set of two special stamps and a stamp sheetlet. A Souvenir Pack containing a pane of mint stamps and a stamp sheetlet from each of the three administrations will also be issued. This is the fourth stamp issue jointly issued by Hongkong Post, China Post and Macau Post.

The two stamps issued by Hongkong Post (HK$1.40 each) depict the images of Deng Xiaoping with the day and night scene of Hong Kong as the background. The stamp sheetlet (HK$10) depicts the life of Deng Xiaoping and the transformation of Hong Kong from the old days into a modern metropolitan city of today.

The stamps are sold in panes of eight pieces. They are designed by Mr. Michael FUNG and printed in lithography by Beijing Stamp Printing Factory, the People's Republic of China.

The stamps will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Shatin Central Post Office from 2 August 2004. Official First Day Cover at $1.00 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance order for servicing self-provided souvenir cover will be accepted at all post offices from 2 to 8 August 2004.

Hand-back datestamping service will be provided at all post offices on 22 August 2004 for official and privately-made covers bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. A speical postmark will also be introduced.

The GPO-1 postmark, the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial postmarks will also be available for hand-back datestamping service at all philatelic offices on that day.

On 22 August 2004, all post offices will open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In addition, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau will open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for datestamped covers with the "Philatelic Bureau"pictorial postmark, the GPO-1 postmark as well as the special postmark.
