First Day Cover Text for "Sports"

With the approach of the Olympic Games this year, Hongkong Post is producing a special stamp issue featuring five Olympic sports enjoyed by the people of Hong Kong. The stamps come in five strips of four $1.40 stamps each, with each strip dedicated to a different sporting event. They are relay race, highboard diving, volleyball, cycling and badminton. This is the first time a set of 20 special stamps of a single denomination is issued by Hongkong Post.

Every strip has a distinctive coloured background and consists of four different frames illustrating a sport in motion. The athletic relay strip is set against a fiery orange background, and shows the runners in exciting poses at different stages of the race from starting line to finish. The highboard diving sequence features a vivid blue background and depicts the fluid movement of the diver as she steps off the diving board and somersaults before plunging gracefully into the water.

The lavender-hued volleyball strip depicts the tense action as the setter positions the ball perfectly for the spiker to send her deadly shot into the opposite court. An equally exciting episode is captured in the cycling strip, set against a vibrant green background, as the cyclist manoeuvres a thrilling pass before pulling away to race across the finish line. The badminton set, which features a warm brown tone, captures four dramatic action shots during an intense game.
