Development of the Pearl River Delta Region Special Stamps issued by Hongkong Post
A set of four special stamps will be issued on 19 October 2004 (Tuesday) to depict the economic partnership between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) Region. The stamps are in denominations of $1.40 (Infrastructure), $2.40 (Logistics), $3 (Tourism) and $5 (Business) and are illustrated with icons symbolising the region's strengths. The unconventional design combining striking graphics and bright colours creates a dramatic effect in each stamp.
The stamps are designed by Mr. Arde LAM and printed in lithography by Joh. Ensched? B.V., the Netherlands.
"The release of this new set of stamps reflects the close ties between Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong, and symbolises the strength that comes from the unity within the Pearl River Delta Region," says Acting Postmaster General, Mrs. Joanna CHOI. "Even though a stamp may be small in appearance, its significance is often very great. In this case, these four extraordinary stamps represent not only the strong cultural bond that exists, but also the powerful partnership that makes the PRD one of the world's greatest economic engines."
This stamp issue illustrates the range of shared activities, together with the unique contributions and the depth of commitment made by Hong Kong, Macao and the nine major cities in the province of Guangdong. The unique design and the symbolic importance of this stamp issue will together make it highly popular both to collectors and the general public in Hong Kong.
Advance orders can be made from 28 September 2004 at any post office in Hong Kong. There are sales restrictions on certain items.
