"88TH Lions Club International Convention 2005" Official Souvenir Cover and Set-Up of a Temporary Post Office at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
The Postmaster General, Mr. Allan CHIANG, today announced that Hongkong Post will issue a Souvenir Cover and a special postmark to commemorate the "88th Lions Clubs International Convention 2005" which takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 27th June to 1st July.
Hongkong Post will support the event by setting up a Temporary Post Office (TPO) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre as well as making available a special commemorative postmark on 27 June. This office will operate between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from 27 to 30 June and between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on 1 July 2005. Postal services include acceptance of Speedpost and Local CourierPost and parcel, and posting of ordinary mail and registered mail.
Commenting upon the special arrangement of setting up a temporary post office, Mr. CHIANG stated: "We are very pleased to put the Temporary Post Office, or TPO, in place as this will undoubtedly be of great convenience and support to the thousands of Lions Club members who will be attending from all parts of the world.
"Lions Club members are made up of leading business and professional citizens. They are recognised worldwide for their positive influence on national welfare and international amity, and on civic, cultural, social and moral standards in the community.
"We wish to make these delegates and their families feel very welcome in Hong Kong and believe they will find the services rendered by the TPO very professional, convenient and useful. Many of them will be combining the Lions Convention with work, and the provision of this TPO will enable them to more easily conduct their business while enjoying Asia's World City."
"88th Lions Clubs International Convention 2005" Official Souvenir Covers will be available for sale at $2 each at 39 Philatelic Offices from 13 to 27 June 2005 and at the TPO from 27 June to 1 July 2005. Serviced Souvenir Covers, at $5.90 each (affixed with a $1.40 definitive stamp, cancelled with the special postmark of 27 June 2005), will be available for sale at the 39 Philatelic Offices and the TPO on 27 June 2005.
A special postmark will be introduced on 27 June 2005. Hand-back service for the special postmark will be provided to official and privately-made covers bearing an indication of the event and a local address at 39 Philatelic Offices and at the TPO on that day. The "GPO-1" postmark and pictorial postmarks will also be available for providing hand-back services at 39 Philatelic Offices on the same day. The special postmark and the TPO postmark will be available at the TPO on that day.
The public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau will open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on 27 June 2005 for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the "GPO-1" postmark as well as the special postmark.
A souvenir pack issued by the "88th Lions Clubs International Convention 2005" Host Committee will be available for sale at the TPO during the Convention period.
In addition, "The 600th Anniversary of Zheng He's Maritime Expeditions" special postmark will be available at the TPO on 28 June along with the TPO postmark. This will coincide with the launch of "The 600th Anniversary of Zheng He's Maritime Expeditions" Special Stamps on that day.
