New Mei Foo Sun Chuen Post Office to open on August 1
A new Mei Foo Sun Chuen Post Office will open on Monday, 1 August 2005 to replace the existing post office at Shops N21-22, G/F, Stage 5, 6A & 6B Nassau Street, Mei Foo Sun Chuen. Located at Shop No. 15, Ground Level, West Rail Mei Foo Station, the new Mei Foo Sun Chuen Post Office will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
"The existing Mei Foo Sun Chuen Post Office has faithfully served customers in the district for over 31 years," said Mr. Allan CHIANG, the Postmaster General. "In an effort to modernize and upgrade our facilities for the benefit of our customers, we therefore decided to reprovision the office to new accommodation. Situated at the West Rail Mei Foo Station, the new office is just one minute's walk from the existing office, offering no less convenience to customers in the area. The new office will also take on a new design, providing added comfort to customers," added Mr. CHIANG.
A $2 souvenir cover will be issued to commemorate the opening of the new office. It will be put on sale at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Shatin Central Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Tuen Mun Central Post Office and Mei Foo Sun Chuen Post Office from 25 July to 1 August 2005.
A special hand-back service will also be provided at the new office on Monday, 1 August 2005, whereby official and privately made unregistered covers with full postage prepaid and bearing a "First Day" indication and a local address will be accepted and impressed with the normal post office datestamp at the counter and handed back to customers. For the convenience of the philatelists, the normal office datestamp of the Mei Foo Sun Chuen Post Office will be reproduced for the provision of hand-back service at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Shatin Central Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office on 1 August 2005.
