Six of the World's Leading Postal Administrations Join Networks to Provide Enhanced Express Service in Asia Pacific Rim Markets

By aligning operating networks, information tracking and IT systems, participating Posts have created a single network to deliver a new level of service and customer satisfaction.

Hong Kong, China, 25 July 005 - Six of the world's leading postal administrations- Australia Post, China Post, Hongkong Post, Japan Post, Korea Post and the United States Postal Service-have committed resources and aligned their respective networks to provide an enhanced express service in Asia Pacific Rim markets.

At a press conference today, senior executives of the six Posts outlined the creation of a unique single network backed up by common business and information technology systems.

Each Post has extensive domestic express delivery services and expertise. The linking of these networks provides our customers with a superior date-certain delivery service. The Posts have created a unique database of localities and postcodes that allows customers to access delivery information across 8 billion postcode combinations. Customers can also track shipments online, all the way from posting to delivery.

The Postmaster General of Hongkong Post, Mr Allan Chiang said customers could depend on unrivalled capacity and on-the-ground expertise of the combined network. "Together, we have more than 261 million delivery points throughout the entire network, as well as some 1.6 million employees and 142,000 retail locations," said Mr Chiang. "This kind of presence is unmatched by any delivery company today and gives us a unique platform for providing extensive express service coverage for our customers."

Mr. Graeme John, Managing Director of Australia Post added: "Customers will find our services very attractive, especially the small to medium business sector. We offer unrivalled reliability at a competitive price and have a distinct service advantage through our numerous retail outlets and significant delivery capability. "

Mr. Ma Jun Sheng Deputy Postmaster General, China Post noted: "The six postal administrations behind this joint effort are already serving the business customer in local markets, with efficiency and expertise. We have now added another layer of service and quality at prices that are very competitive and without surcharges that surprise the customer".

Mr. Takahashi Toshihiro Senior Executive Vice President of Japan Post, added: "Our collaboration is the most expansive of its kind within the global Postal community. It underlines our determination to provide the most reliable express services throughout Asia/Pacific. The Asia Pacific Rim marketplace is dynamic and expanding quickly. Our announcement today is evidence that we have a major role to play in supporting our customers grow with the market."

Mr. Joong-Yeon Hwang President of Korea Post said: "Our determination to provide excellent service to our customers in meeting their express service needs is just the beginning. All six of us have the business strengths and vision to introduce innovative new services that meet the needs of our customers."

Mr. Paul Vogel, Vice President Network Operations of US Postal Service said: "It is our CEO Mr. John Potter's belief that all six Posts can leverage their collective capabilities to better satisfy current customers and to acquire new ones. Our state-of-the-art technology linking 8 billion postcodes will allow our customers to know exactly when their shipment will be due for delivery... guaranteed. Our collaboration to use shared technology, an integrated network with reliable on-time performance will show our customers that postal administrations can leverage their expertise to provide superior, dependable service at a competitive price. The US Postal Service is truly proud to be part of this initiative driving change in the postal world."
Delivery times for express courier services offered by the Posts range from overnight between selected localities in Asia, 2-3 days for other Asia localities and Australia, 3 days from Australia/Asia to US and 5 days from US to Asia/Australia upon acceptance. Customers can access specific delivery information by contacting their local Post Office.
