Post Office Trading Fund 10th Anniversary Toward Hong Kong's First World Record Stamp Mosaic
In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Post Office Trading Fund, Hongkong Post has created a unique, gigantic stamp mosaic for Hong Kong.
Unique Features
- Measuring 6.45 m wide and 3.97 m high, probably the world's largest mosaic of used stamps. Hongkong Post will file an application to the Guinness Book of World Records in an attempt to gain another entry for Hong Kong.
- Made with the concerted efforts of Hongkong Post's staff and their families as well as overseas Postal Administrations. For the first time in Hong Kong, tens of thousands of used stamps donated by staff and overseas Postal Administrations were assembled to outline the skyline of Hong Kong, Asia's World City.
- Took almost a year from design to complete. Over a thousand Hongkong Post staff and their families participated in affixing the stamps during their spare time. The last piece of the mosaic was inserted jointly by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, the Honourable Donald Tsang and the Postmaster General, Mr. Allan Chiang, at the celebration reception of the 10th Anniversary of the Post Office Trading Fund on 30 August 2005.
- Demonstrates not only the team spirit and creativity of Hongkong Post, but also the solidarity among Postal Administrations. Promotes the positive message that communication by posting letters is an effective and warm way to link people and businesses.
Engaging the Community
The people of Hong Kong are rightly part of this avant-garde initiative - a possible World Record entry for Hong Kong.
The Post Office Trading Fund 10th Anniversary Stamp Mosaic will be exhibited for public viewing at the Counter Hall, 1/F of General Post Office from 31 August to 3 September 2005, then at Postal Gallery, G/F of General Post Office from 5 September 2005 onwards.
Hongkong Post will also organize a competition in late September for the public to guess the total number of used stamps in the mosaic. Details of the competition will soon be announced.
