Hongkong Post issues special Lunar New Year stamps First Day Cover text

This is the first set of stamps issued by Hongkong Post that features Hong Kong's popular singers, saluting five pop stars who have left their marks on Cantopop music history.

This is the seventh Lunar New Year special stamp issue in the third series released by Hongkong Post. The first and second sets of special stamps for the Year of the Dog were issued in 1970 and 1994 respectively.

2006 is the Year of the Dog. People born under this sign are generous and honest. They also possess a great sense of loyalty that makes them trustworthy friends. Naturally sharp-eyed and poised, Dogs make excellent leaders, business people and writers as well.

The four stamps come in denominations of $1.40, $2.40, $3.00 and $5.00. Five-colour printing is used to capture the gradation of light and shade, accentuating the three-dimensional effect by enhancing the image detail of the four dogs against a background embellished with silver foliage.

The First Day Cover design embodies a successful fusion of traditional paper cutting with a computer-generated image. The peony in golden paper symbolises good fortune and the brownish-yellow dog sculpture heralds the Year of the Dog, a perfect combination for this festive celebration.
