Special Stamp Issue - "Government Transport" (19 October 2006)

The Postmaster General, Mr. TAM Wing-pong today announced that a special stamp issue with the theme of "Government Transport" will be released on Thursday, 19 October 2006. This set of special stamps comprises six stamps, featuring six unique vehicles from our disciplined forces. The series demonstrates the diversity and complexity of the services rendered by the various government departments.

Commenting on this special stamp issue, Mr. TAM remarked: "Special vehicles are employed by disciplined services to enable them to function effectively. They are essential for maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety and providing emergency services. The Hongkong Post wants to draw public's attention to the important role played by those fleets of vehicles in making Hong Kong a good and safe place to live, to work and to do business."

The set of stamps showcases a Security Bus from the Correctional Services Department, a Mobile X-ray Vehicle Scanning Systems of the Customs & Excise Department , a Fire Services Department Hydraulic Platform, a Super Puma Helicopter of the Government Flying Service, a Versatile Traffic Patrol Motorcycle from the Hong Kong Police Force and an Immigration Department Launch.

The stamps are designed by Mr. KAN Tai-keung, and printed in lithography by Joh. Enschede B.V., the Netherlands.

The set of special stamps will be displayed at the General Post Office and Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsuen Wan and Shatin Central post offices from 28 September 2006. The Official First Day Cover will be put on sale at $1.00 each in all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from 28 September to 4 October 2006.

A hand-back datestamping service will be provided at all post offices on 19 October 2006 for official and privately-made covers bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address.

A special postmark will also be introduced. This will be available, together with the GPO-1 postmark, the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial postmarks, for hand-back datestamping service at all philatelic offices on that day.
