Special Stamp Issue - "The 140th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen" (12 November 2006)

The Postmaster General, Mr Tam Wing-pong, announced today (October 20) that a set of special stamps entitled "The 140th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr Sun Yat-sen" would be issued on November 12. All post offices (except mobile post offices) will open from 9am to 1pm on that day. The General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui and Airport post offices will maintain their normal Sunday operating hours from 9am to 2pm.

"Dr Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) is a national hero who had led the country into a new era, thus laying the foundation for the establishment of a modern China. He was closely related to Hong Kong both as a student and a young revolutionary," Mr Tam said. "To commemorate the 140th anniversary of his birth, Hongkong Post will issue a set of four stamps and a stamp sheetlet to provide a glimpse into the life of Dr Sun by presenting some of his portraits at different ages."

The stamps will be on display at the General Post Office, the Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsuen Wan and Shatin Central post offices from October 23.
