Fact Sheet - Special Stamp Issuing Programme for 2008

 

The Year of the Rat stamps featuring the nimbleness of Rats and the gold and silver stamp sheetlet with Pig and Rat, embossed and hot-foiled with genuine 22-karat gold, 24-karat gold and 99.9% pure silver, are cherished as symbols of wealth and honour.

Through the issue of special stamps, Hongkong Post pays tribute to nature, promoting the message of conservation among the community. The exotic natural beauty of Huanglong is breathtaking and must not be missed in the Mainland Scenery series. There will also be stamps depicting fascinating gorgeous Hong Kong Flowers, fascinating jellyfish and our lovely Giant Pandas.

The wonderful range of stamp issues in 2008 also includes children stamps conveying the fun of paper folding, the Judiciary in praise of the just and fair legal system in Hong Kong, and the new set of Heartwarming stamps conveying warm messages of Love & Care and Celebrations. The stamp sheetlet on the PRAGA 2008 stamp exhibition is artistically presented and designed to commemorate Hongkong Post’s participation in the event.

2008 will be a memorable year for the Chinese, as for the first time the Olympic Games are to be held in China. Hong Kong people are particularly proud that the Olympic Equestrian Events will be staged in Hong Kong, and a set of special stamps will be issued to commemorate this important event. Customers can learn more about this fascinating special stamp issue and the associated products early next year.

January 2008 Year of the Rat
This is the ninth set of stamps in the third Lunar New Year animal series. This set of four stamps vividly captures the nimbleness of rats against a background embellished with silver foliage.
January 2008 Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals - Pig/ Rat
Say farewell to the "Year of the Pig" and welcome the "Year of the Rat" with this fabulous Chinese New Year commemorative sheetlet. Embossed and hot-foiled with genuine 22K and 24K gold as well as 99.9% silver, this special edition will make an exciting addition to your collection.
February 2008 Mainland Scenery Series No. 7: Huanglong
This is the seventh issue in the Mainland Scenery Series. Huanglong, Sichuan was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1992. The dragon is a time-honoured icon of China, and Huanglong takes the name of "Yellow Dragon" for the unique locations of its various colourful ponds.
March 2008 Hong Kong Flowers
This issue of Hong Kong Flowers presents six distinguished flowers regularly seen in Hong Kong. The flowers are painted by hand in a traditional Chinese manner and displayed on a computer-generated background. Such a combination of styles demonstrates how Hong Kong can incorporate diverse cultures.

Children Stamps - Paper Folding Fun
This is the sixth issue of Children Stamps since 2001. Hongkong Post held a "Children Stamps – Paper Folding Design Competition" in 2006, and a variety of prize-winning pieces featuring themes related to plants, animals and festivals have been incorporated into the design of the 2008 Children Stamps.

June 2008 Jellyfish
This distinctive stamp set, with its special luminous effect, captures jellyfish in six graceful postures and is certain to be a treasured collectible.
July 2008 Giant Pandas
This set of Giant Pandas stamps is issued to commemorate the anniversary of the arrival of Le Le and Ying Ying in Hong Kong. A must for philatelists and the general public alike, the stamp set shows the lovely pandas in delightful poses.
August 2008 2008 Olympic Equestrian Events in Hong Kong
For the first time, Hong Kong will organise an Olympic event in conjunction with the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. To celebrate the Olympic Equestrian Events to be held in Hong Kong, a set of distinctive stamps will represent the essence of these international equestrian competitions.
September 2008 Stamp Sheetlet to Commemorate Hongkong Post's Participation in World Stamp Exhibition PRAGA 2008
Hongkong Post will participate in the World Stamp Exhibition PRAGA 2008 to promote the popularity of Hong Kong stamps worldwide. This special artistically rendered stamp sheetlet is issued to commemorate our participation in the event.
September 2008 Heartwarming
With Love & Care and Celebrations as the themes, these stamps are specially designed to let you convey your care and concern to your loved ones.
November 2008 Judiciary
This set of four stamps is issued in praise of the just and fair legal system in Hong Kong, and features familiar symbols of our Judiciary. Each side of each stamp is equal in length representing equality before the law, and the white background represents a corruption-free society.
